Local Current Review

About

Local Current Review is an independent-minded publication about how we read the places around us. It follows the clues in names, maps, boundaries, landmarks and neighbourhood patterns, making room for both clear explanations and the limits of what a clue can tell us.

What we cover

Our subjects include the origins and meanings of place names, the choices built into maps, the history and use of boundaries, the role of landmarks, and the connections that give neighbourhoods their shape. We focus on durable questions rather than breaking local news.

Who it is for

The publication is for curious readers who want to understand a place more fully, whether they are looking at a familiar street or getting their bearings somewhere new. No specialist knowledge is needed; we aim to make the details clear without flattening their complexity.

How we look

We favour precise language, useful context and distinctions between established information and interpretation. A map is a representation, not the whole place; a name can carry several histories; and a boundary may mean different things in different contexts. We say what we can support and leave room for uncertainty.
